Tiny Tug is a children’s story with a positive narrative that teaches children several
important lessons. Though Tiny Tug is, well, tiny, he does not let this get in the way of his dreams and aspirations. He has a loyal group of friends who value him for who he is, not his small size. This positively reinforces that although we may all be different in shape, color, religion, or economic class we are all deserving of respect and deserve to be heard.
Tiny Tug also encounters No-Land, the Tall Ship from the "Land of No" who bullies Tiny upon their first encounter because he feels he does not need the help of a "little ugly tug boat". This scene exemplifies “bullying” behavior, and it’s negative impact on the emotional health and development of children. Tiny Tug eventually rises above this by questioning whether this behavior is appropriate, and realizes that, in fact, it’s not acceptable. This will reinforce
critical thinking for your child as it applies to social situations, and demonstrates how to build self confidence and that bullying is not only unfriendly but is also unacceptable to society.
